Letters to Herald
Herald Media has omitted my name from articles on District 3 candidates several times. They have published false information and unsubstantiated "rumors" passing as news. I have requested corrections and retractions on three occasions/ My last email had a response and a correction to the article "regretting" the writer's words. It is unfortunate that my time is used to call out misinformation and bias. We have important issues at stake in our district to address. But we cannot allow any media entity to dictate the terms of our elections.
As residents of Cochise County, we must advocate for a return to responsible journalism that prioritizes the democratic process over sensationalism or favoritism. Only then can we ensure that every voice is heard and every vote counts.

Letter to the Sierra Vista Herald, cc: Teri Jo Neff 10/7/24 2024.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to formally express my concern regarding the recent article published in your paper that insinuates I am a “ringer” in the race for County Supervisor. Such deleberate repeating of baseless rumors undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
In addition , Neff falsely states that I am a last minute candidate who joined the race in May. My filing interest date as is clearly available to the public on the County Election website: 11/28/2023. The last candidate to announce interest was Jacob Kartchner on 12/19/23.
Neff writes:
"The last of the four BOS-3 candidates to enter the race was Nyberg, a former educator turned real estate professional who lives in the unincorporated community of Pearce in northern Cochise County. She did not file to run for BOS-3 until May, giving her less than six months to campaign as an Independent in a very solidly Republican district.
Her status as last-minute candidate and a political unknown led to several rumors that Nyberg was a “ringer” or political spoiler who could keep other candidates from attracting critical moderate and unaffiliated votes."

As a candidate dedicated to serving the people of Cochise County, I believe it is vital for journalism to adhere to factual reporting and ethical standards. The insinuations made in your article could mislead voters and create unwarranted distrust among constituents.
I urge you to consider the impact of such articles on our community and to rectify this misinformation in future publications.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
Sincerely,
Patricia "Patsy" Nyberg

Fair and Impartial Election Coverage

Yet again, the only local print paper has removed any trace of a fourth candidate in District 3 race for County Supervisor. In August, I requested a correction from Hector Acuna, who neglected to add my name to list of candidates in his article.
Patsy Nyberg Sat, Aug 24, 8:40 AM to *Hector
Good Morning Mr Acuna! In your July article on " Frank Antenori poised to win BOS D3" you wrote the names of his opponents. My name was absent from the list. The November ballot for D3 will read as follows: Frank Antenori (R) Jacob Kartchner (IND) Joy Banks(D) Patricia "Patsy" Nyberg (IND) Thank you in advance for the correction and have a beautiful weekend! Best regards,
PATSY NYBERG Independent Candidate for Bos D3

I have yet to receive a response or see correction in the paper. Acuna also omits my photo in all District 3 articles while posting comments and photos of all other candidates. I will commend him on phoning me and giving me space and a photo (July 14 issue) to answer questions posed at the Benson Chamber of Commerce forum that I missed out on. And now Matt Hick, In his "Featured, Top Story " of Sept 16, he makes it clear for readers there are only 3 candidates. "Because of that, Antenori and Kartchner are the only candidates with a path to victory, but to knock off the Republican, Kartchner will need all the support he can muster. Much the way Walsh can’t win without Briseno Republicans, Kartchner can’t win without Banks Democrats. The Democratic Party in the state has stood by Banks on general principle, but make no mistake about it, in the final analysis, a vote for Banks will have been a vote for the Republican" Key information for readers/voters might be omitted unintentionally due to oversight as I feel Mr Acuna"s original error was. But when the omission becomes consistent, it would seem the intention is deliberate. At the September 18th Sky Islands Partnership Alliance debate in Benson, one of our D3 candidates greeted me and said, "I congratulate you for sticking it out given that there were people that wanted you to drop out" I was quite taken aback by this statement as support for my campaign has been very strong east of the Dragoons. "The events that you have been intentionally left out of" the candidate explained. I replied that I felt there was miscommunication or poor communication.. Head shaking, "Oh, it was deliberate!" I will note here that this was the 2nd candidate to relay their dismay that I am being "omitted". Whether intentional or an oversight, important information for readers/voters is missing. They will not be able to make informed decisions because of incomplete knowledge. It is a biased perspective and distortion of the truth. Bottom line: It is poor journalism. Our citizens deserve better. They deserve fair and unbiased election coverage.
